Aquatic Classes
Pre-School
Shrimps
I: Ages 6-18 months. Parent/Child class.
Perch: Ages 30-42 months.
Parent/Child class.
Pike: 3-4
years old very beginning level. Comfortable in water without parent. Uses
floatation.
Eel:
Ages 4-5 years old for beginners to intermediate.
Able to reach & kick without assistance. Uses floatation.
Ray/Starfish: 4-6
years old. Intermediate to advanced with no flotation device.
Preschool Gym & Swim: For ages 3-5
years. Adult/child class. 30 minutes in the pool and 30 minutes in the
gym.

Youth
Classes
Progressive Swim Classes:
For the child 7 years to 12 years to build swim skills as well as personal safety, age appropriate rescue and first aid skills, and other aquatic sports such as wet ball or water polo, basic synchronized skills, and some boating safety.

Polliwog:
Basic beginners with little swim experience.

Guppy:
Some swim skills, the ability to travel 25 yards
on top of the water on front and back, also a fundamental knowledge of
rotary breathing.

Minnow:
An advanced beginner swimming easily 25 yards on
front with proficient rotary breathing and 25 yards on the back in
good form. Distances to be increased to 50 yards both on back and
front with open turns.

Fish:
An intermediate swimmer with competent front
crawl and back crawl for 50 yards. Breast stroke, side stroke and
elementary back stroke will be added to the students swim skills at
this level.

Flying
Fish: An upper level
intermediate level which polishes all previous strokes and introduces
Butterfly to the swimmer.

Shark:
As an advanced swimmer the student perfects
butterfly and is introduced to a full array of competitive swim
skills.

Swim Lessons:
Work at your own pace. One-on-one instruction. For youth and adults.
Semi private lessons are also available

Masters Swimming: Lap swimmers looking for a challenging
workout. Improve speed, endurance and technique.

Water Fitness Classes

AOA: Water fitness class intended for all abilities.
Open to the public.
Hi-Intensity Aqua-cise:
No swim skills needed. Up tempo class - for those looking for a challange.
Cardio Aqua-cise:
No swim skills. Low-Medium intensity workout.
Arthritis Aquatics:
For all types of arthritis. Gentle range of motion exercises designed by physical therapists and rheumatologists
for joint protection. Arthritis Foundation certified.
Deep Water Workout:
Workout using floatation. Medium intensity.
SilverSplash: Seniors water exercises to increase functional daily movements, increase Joint flexibility, balance, and muscle strength.
Water Volleyball: Adult fun in the water. Relaxed rules and no floor injuries.
Birchaven / YMCA Water Fitness Classes
Open to Birchaven residents, YMCA members
and the community
The
YMCA will be providing, in collaboration with Blanchard Valley Hospital,
through their new Birchaven pool for programs and services for the
community.
AOA:
For active older adults with cardio, flexibility and toning.
Arthritis Aquatics: Certified by the Arthritis
Foundation. Improve flexibility and range of motion.
Parkinson's: Slow moving class for those with
Parkinson's. Works on balance, range of motion and cardiovascular.
